If you were only worried about ba...Yeah, probably.

If you were only worried about balanced hands you would really like to show three different ranges at the 1-level, like in a Strong Diamond system:

11-13 open 1C
14-16 open 1NT
17-19 open 1D

But otherwise you're faced with a choice: either you treat hands of about 19 HCP as two-bid hands, or you open them at the 2-level. Neither method is particularly appealing.

All the systems I play treat it as a two-bid hand: I think this is fine because the vast majority of the time you are happy to take a second bid. But there is always going to be the occasional hand where you wish you were playing a strength-showing 2D or something.DavidChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14978451945191931557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8276785354801124344.post-4372969094210279212007-01-24T01:23:00.000+00:002007-01-24T01:23:00.000+00:00Yup, and of course Siege uses a similar structure ...Yup, and of course Siege uses a similar structure 1st NV.

I've seen some players of systems like this, and indeed strong clubs, use an 18-19 or 19-20 2NT opening, which conforms to your principle that these should be one-bid hands. Obviously you are already quite high, though - is it taking a good thing too far?MickyBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00175423928817757054noreply@blogger.com
